Thoughthe gamewaslimited to two days, and play was only possible for twenty-five minutes on the first , the gamewas brought to a definite issue . W i t hawicket to help themthe bowlers had matters muchtheir ownway. In this department Marylebone was only weak, so that Oxford's victory was hardly asurprise . Thehighest of the three completed innings was Oxford's first of 109, andthe best individual contribution R. E.Foster's 28for Oxford. A tthe finish Oxford were seen to better advantage , and, as the conditions were, their 74 for two wickets was a creditable performance . Oxford won by nine wickets . Although the first day produced some interesting cricket without inter- ruption , the rain prevented the extension of the gameto a little morethan an innings to each side . Asfar as it went M.C.C. had a slight advantage , as Yorkshire , with two good batsmenout in the second hands, were still 18 runs behind. O nthe second dayplay only lasted for two hours anda half, and on the third none was possible at all . Brown(whojust reached his hundred) and Tunnicliffe madea good start for Yorkshire , putting on 119 before a wicket fell . Afterwards F. S. Jackson and Lord Hawkealone got double figures , and the pair first namedwere responsible for 166 out of 220 from the bat. All the first six batsmenof M.C.C. got doubles . But distinctly the best cricket was shown by H. B. Chinnery, who was unlucky to miss his 100 by only three runs. Yorkshire , 225 and26 for two wickets ; total , 251. M.C.C. andGround, 2 6 9.
