Sussex. Lord's, M a y4, 5 and6. Losing the toss spelt Disaster with a big , big D for the County . They did well to get rid of a fairly strong side of M.C.C., including W. G., A. N. Hornby, Gunn, Č. O. H. Sewell , and Davidson (G.), on a moderately easy wicket , for 218. There their hopes ended. Afterwards the wicket was treacherous to the last degree through rain , and with J. T. Hearne, A. E. Trott , and Martin to bowl M.C.C. had a certain win. G. Brann (17 and 12) was, indeed , the highest scorer for the County, and the largest individual score was Bland's second of 22. Lancashire. Lord's, M a y9 and 10. Another innings victory for M.C.C. This time the side was hardly so strong inbatting . Whatwas of more importance , luck was again with them, andwith the best of the wicket in going in first they wonalmost from the start . Of the Marylebone total of 262 morethanone-half were contributed by Captain Poore (51) and C. O. H. Sewell (111). The latter's was a brilliant display of free cricket , occupying only two hours and forty minutes . With all the worst of the wicket , and J. T. Hearne, Martin, and Meadto face , the Lancashire batsmenhadan unenviable task before them. Cuttell (10 and 34, not out) alone got double figures in each innings . But the best display on the side was Tyldesley's second score of 63, the highest in the matchbar Sewell's 111 already mentioned. M.C.C. and Groundw o nby an innings and25 runs. M.C.C. andGround, 262. Yorkshire began well while thewicket was fresh , Brownand Tunnicliffe putting on 51 before the rain came on . O nthe resumption ten wickets fell for anaddition of 67, J. T. Hearne taking eight of them for 48 runs . In the second innings Yorkshire didbetter, thanks mainly to Wainwright, whose 63 was, under the existing conditions , an excellent performance .
