Agreat cricket enthu- siast . A nardent collector of cricket prints andcurios . Hiscollection of cricket literature was, with but very few exceptions , the largest in existence. PARDON, Mr. EDGAR(July 16) . A well -known cricket writer . For some years editor of " The Green Lillywhite ," and of late years joint editor of "Wisden's Almanack." Three years ago he wasPresident of the London Press Club, andat the time of his deathw a sa m e m b e rof the council of the NewspaperPress Fund. Age38. PLATTS , JOHN (August ). A well -known old Derbyshire player . Born at Chellaston , near Derby , on December 5, 1848. He played for Derbyshire in the first matches ever played by the County Club . Although never actually first -class either as a batsman or bowler , he could generally be relied upon to make a few runs or take a few wickets . H e bowled right handandbatted left . In 1885 a match-Yorkshire v. Derbyshire-was played for his benefit . ROBINSON, M R. J. SANDFORD (April 21). Educated at Harrowand Cambridge, but wasin neither Eleven. His performances for Notts in 1891 and 1892 madehis omission from the Cambridge Eleven all the more surprising . Probably his best innings was his 71 for Notts v. Yorkshire , at Notting- h a m, in July, 1892. H evisited India in 1892 and the United States in 1894, each timeas a m e m b e rof LordHawke'steam. Hisdeathresulted from a fall from his horse . BornFebruary 4, 1868 . SMITH, M R. JOHN(November26). Represented Derbyshire in 1871 , 72, 74, 75, 76, '77 and'78 . W a sa good average bat , having a very strong defence , a slow round-armed bowler , and a fair field , generally at point . Height 6ft . in., weight 11 st . 10lbs . Born at Clifton , in Derbyshire , October 7, 1841. SPURWAY, CAPT. ROBERT POPHAM, of the Royal Engineers and Somersetshire . Diedin the first week of Decemberat the early age of 32. H ewas a fine bat, combining defence with considerable hitting powers , and in 1894 scored 108 not out for Somersetshire v. Gloucestershire , at Bristol . TEBBUT, Mr. C. M. (October). A keen, all -round sportsman. A good foot- baller in the early days of the Association game and an excellent all- round cricketer . Mostly associated as an active cricketer with the Clapton and Middlesex Clubs ; he was best knownlatterly as treasurer of the EssexCounty C.C. To his liberality and watchful care as treasurer Essex is greatly indebted for its present position in the cricket world . An excel- lent all -round athlete and a great supporter of all athletic sports . ULYETT, GEORGE (June). His first appearance for Yorkshire was against Sussex, at Bramall Lane, in 1873. In 1878, 1881 , 1882 , 1883, 1884, 1885 and 1886, he scored over 1,000 runs in first -class matches. H eretired from first -class cricket after the season of 1893. H evisited Australia five times withEnglish touring teams, viz.:-1876-7 , 1878-9 , 1881-2 , 1884-5 and 1887-8 . Duringhis second tour he obtained four wickets in four balls against N e w SouthWales. H evisited America as a memberof Daft's team, and also wentto San Francisco with the team, which passed through the town on the wayto Australia in 1881-2 . H evisited Africa in 1888 with Major Wharton'steam. In 1887 he received a benefit . O n eof the best all- round players Yorkshire ever had fast bowler , free batsman and good energetic field . Age47.
