F. Adamson 43) and Stamford Green 114.-I n the match Old Wellingburians v. Cirencester , at Cirencester , July 29, 30, owing to some misunderstanding , the first day's play took place on the College Ground, and the second day's onthe T o w nClub's Ground, in Earl Bathurst's Park. Cirencester took an hour to score 17 , S. Boulton being in an hour for 5, and T. B. Wacher nearly three hours for 24. In the second innings of Nottinghamshire v. Surrey , at the Oval , W. Gunntook part in three separate three -figure part- nerships , Guttridge , F. (79), helping to add 124 for the fourth wicket , Dench, С. Е. (49), 111 for the seventh , and Gunn, J. (47) , 103 for the eighth.- Playing for Sussex v. Surrey, at Brighton, W . N e w h a mwas dismissed first ball ineach innings .-OnJuly 30, at Bushey, the 1st XI. of Bushey played the 2ndX I., the former , playing with broomsticks , winning by an innings and 15 runs .-Playing for Richmond Townv. Surrey Club and Ground, at Rich- mond, in August, R. F. Benn went in first and carried his bat right through the innings for one run. The total of the innings was 25.--- Playing for Woodford Wells v. Finchley , on August 13 , Lionel Arbuthnot drove a ball hard for six , all run, an overthrow increasing the stroke to ten .-Elevenof the Baker family , of Beckenham, played against the local club on August 24. Score: Bakers234, Beckenham237 for four wickets .-Nolessthanten balls were used in the match between NewSouth Wales and South Australia , at Sydney, February 18, 19 , 21 , 22. During a match at Durban, on March 7, between A. Bailey's XI. and Natal , it was found that the wicket was too long by 3½inches . Major Poore played his first match for Hampshire , at Bath, against Somerset- shire . He went in first and carried his bat through the innings for 49 out of a total of 97.-Eleven Franks (34 and 38 for no wicket ) played Kirby- moorside (65 and 102 for 9 wickets , innings closed ), at Kirbymoorside , September 17. -In 1898 , J. W. Crawfurd , the old Merchant Taylor , scored exactly the same number of runs for the same number of innings and with the s a m en u m b e rof not outs as in 1897.-Between1886 and 1898 the ColomboColts played 133 matches, of whichthey won90, lost 9, and left 34 drawn-a fine performance.-Playing for Kathiawarv. PoonaGymkhana, on August 31 and September 1, K. S. Ranjitsinhji obtained a pair of spectacles : cGreig, b Deas 0 ; c Bond, b Deas, 0.-Inthe second innings of Warwickshire v. Surrey , at the Oval, Lilley batted 85 minutes with a broken finger for 57 runs.--In the matchbetween Dewsburyand Bradford , at Bradford , on M a y 28, the former were dismissed for two. The latter went in, received two balls from which six runs were made, and so wonthe match by ten wickets . -Playing in a match on Clapham Common, on June 18, H. M. Autin, who was wicket -keeping , was struck by a bail which penetrated the orbit . Unfortunately the sight of the eye was destroyed .-Theemployees of the Mount Benson G. M. Co. met those of the Lady Mary G. M. Co. on the Ground of the former , at Norseman , West Australia , on April 24, but their innings proved an ignominious failure , the whole of the eleven being disposed of for four runs. W h e nthe Lady Marywentto the wickets the first hit madea fiver , and the match was over .-- Playing for Undershaw (Dr. A. Conan Doyle's XI.) v. J. V. Macmillan's XI., at Undershaw , on August 2, Capt. P. C. W. Trevor disposed of eight men behind the wicket in one innings (six stumped and two caught )- aworld's record .-Surrey had not a ball bowled in either of their first two matches of the season -v.
