At Maritzburg (Natal ), on February 2, in the match Royal Dublin Fusiliers v. Civilians , 637 runs were scored for the loss of 7 wickets . The Civilians declared at 300 for four wickets and the Fusiliers at 337for three. Thelatter wonthe matchwithout losing a wicket , as Capt. Mainwaring (193) and Lieut. Lowndes (117) put on 303 runs for the first wicket-a record for Africa. In important matches in Australia Mr. A. C. MacLarenplayed the following consecutive innings for the English team, 142 and 100 v. N e wSouth Wales, at Sydney; 181 v. 13 of Queensland andN e wSouth Wales, at Brisbane ; and 109 v. Australia , at Sydney. On November2, Patiala scored 633 (for 4 wickets ) against Umbala (a military team) at Umbala-the largest total innings ever made in India . For Streatham last season N. Miller scored 1,514 runs in 20 completed innings , average 75.70 . H e scored five centuries and obtained6 1 wickets. F a s tS c o r i n g. In a match at St. Quintin's Park, on August 6, between the Gryphons and Kensington Park, the former declared at 229 for 8 wickets . G. F. Camp- bell and R. F. A. Orr went in for Kensington Park, and scored the first 100 in 35 minutes, and the whole of the runs (230) were hit off in 90 minutes ; Orr 110 not out, Campbell 90, and M. A. Nicholas 25 not out.-Playing for CaneHill Asylum v. Whitgift GrammarSchool , at Coulsdon, on July 9, V. F. S. Crawfordm a d e300 out of 403 for 6 wickets on twohours and three- quarters . At Sherborne , on August 2, the Old Sherburnians , playing against Dorset County, made 511 for 3 wickets in just over four hours.---Liverpool scored 400 for 3 wickets , against Warrington, in two hours and a half , on the Liverpool Ground, July19, three players making centuries . For Hampton Wickv. London County Council , on July 23, Dr. Sedgewick and F. K. Hirst made72 in a shade under 25 minutes . HamptonWick made183 runs in 72 minutes . CheltenhamCollege made 204 in 75 minutes v. R.A.C. , F. Kershaw (88) hitting two 7's , a 5, and eleven 4's , and Collett (61) two 5's and seven 4's . Thesamepair also scored 45 runs in eight minutes in a house match. Rev. J. C. Crawford's XI. made296 for 7 wickets against CaterhamDepôt, on Sep- tember 13, in 90 minutes .-M. Frank wentin first in each innings , scoring 14 out of 27 from the bat in the first innings , and 51 not out out of 54 for no wicket from the bat in the second .-In amatchbetween WestHerts and Teddington, at Watford, onAugust 20, the former at one time made56 in ten minutes ; N. E. T. Bosanquet for the latter made145 not out in 95 minutes, and B. J. T. Bosanquet 45 in 20 minutes . Teddington scored 265 runs in 95 minutes .-For Audley House School (with Masters ) v. Granville (2nd XI.), at Lee , May23 and 24, Č. J. M. Godfrey made 124 out of 156, the next highest score in the completed innings being 8.-For Paddington v. Burwood, at Sydney , on March 5, V. Trumper and A. C. Мас- kenzie made 200 in 90 minutes . In the match between Cheltenham College and Clifton College , at Clifton , July 8 and 9, the former were set 160 to get in 60 minutes, and during that time they obtained 151 for 3 wickets .-For Somerset v. Sussex , at Eastbourne , S. M. J. Woodsscored 143 out of 173 while in in two hours and a quarter . Silwood Park made228 wanted to win in two hours against Wokingham, at Silwood Park, on July 16.
