(Clifton and Oxford ).-Avery useful cricketer : bowled well through- out the season ; perhaps hardly so successful with the bat as formerly . HEDLEY, Capt . (Marlborough ).--Could only play in three matches ; hardly so successful a bowler as in previous years . HILL, V. T. ( Winchester and Oxford).-Left-handbat and fine hitter ; played NEWTON, A. E.-- Out of form at the wicket in early part of the year, but as finely in August; good field ; can bowl a little . good as ever towards the end. Moderate bat. PALAIRET, L. C. H. (Repton and Oxford).-Most correct and stylish batsman; inhis best form this year, and quite one of the best bats of the day. Fine field and good change bowler . PALAIRET , R. C. N. (Repton and Oxford ).-Afine free bat , with plenty of good strokes ; fair short slip ; unable to play regularly . PHILLIPS , F. A. (Rossall and Oxford).-Batted consistently well whenable to play; very fine punishing bat and excellent field . ROE, W. N. (Cambridge).- T h eveteran of the team; in great form with the bat this year ; madeseveral centuries for his County. Goodfield and fair changebowler . STANLEY , H. T. (Oxford ).- Amuch improved bat and good point . WICKHAM. Rev. A. P. (Marlborough and Oxford ).-" Kept " very well . A consistently steady bat, as his average testifies . WOODS, S. M. J.-(Brighton and Cambridge ).-A most popular captain , and a mainstay to any side ; batted very finely throughout the season ; bowled well at times , and an extraordinary field anywhere ; prevented from playing at end of year owing to an accident . TRASK, W. (Sherborne ).-A most painstaking and keen cricketer ; steady bat, with good style . S T A F F O R D S H I R E . FERNIE , A. E. Good bat ; sound defence and good slow bowler , with any amountof pluck. HARRISON , W. E.-Very steady bat , with good defence ; a consistent scorer . HEATH, A. H. (Clifton and Oxford ).-One of the prettiest bats in the country ; very dangerous whenwell set : would be very useful to the County if he could play more frequently . MAINWARING, Rev. P. E.-Has captained the team for the last two seasons ; perhaps the pluckiest bat in the team ; rarely fails at a pinch ; very hard hitter, andfast run-getter . M C H A R G, . -Very fine wicket -keeper ; makesruns whenwanted. STRATTON , H. D.-A very patient bat, fine defence , and always gets runs ; goodfield . THOMAS, G. E.-Has the promise of making a really fine bat ; rather disap- pointing during the past season ; a good field and fast bowler . WALKER, W. E.-Good fast bowler ; patient bat , generally getting runs . S U R R E Y . CHINNERY, H. B. (Eton).- Auseful all -round cricketer ; right -handed bats- m a n, with plenty of hit if required ; a slowleft -hand bowler , and good field . CRAWFORD, V. F. S.-A very fine bat whenset ; fair change bowler , andhard- working field ; performs sensational feats in minor matches; fast scorer a n dfree hitter. JEPHSON , D. L. A. (Cambridge ).- Agood bat ; a reliable field , and very useful lob bowler; was of great service both as a batsmanand a bowler. KEY, K. J. (Clifton and Oxford ). A good bat, with excellent defence and plenty of hit whenrequired ; moderate field ; captained the eleven well . LEVESON-GOWER, H. D. (Winchester and Oxford ).-Agood bat and fine field ; bowlsslowroundat times with success.
