A fine bat, with excellent defence ; was in brilliant form last year; good field ; a very useful medium-pace bowler ; captained the eleven with great judgment. HOWITT, R. H. Good bowler and field ; an effective batsman with plenty of hit. JONES , A. O. (Cambridge).- Avery good bat, and excellent field at slip . OSCROFT, P. W .-G o o dbatandfield . WRIGHT, C. W. (Charterhouse and Cambridge ).-A very good bat , with good defence ; an excellent wicket -keeper . O X F O R D S H I R E . BASSETT, H. (Oxford).- H a simproved as a batsmanin a marked degree, and canplay both an offensive and defensive game, although perhaps best at the latter ; his bowling has lost some of its sting , but is still effective . BRADFORD , C. C.-An admirable captain , possessing the full confidence of his men; did not have the best of luck , but played one excellent innings ; was severely handicapped through an injured hand. BRADFORD, Rev. B. W.-A n excellent all -round cricketer ; a brilliant field in the slips , and on his wicket a dangerous bowler ; started with a fine innings against Berks , but was unlucky in the later matches. COMPTON , E. D.-Was disappointing , and failed to play up to his reputation ; seemedd o w non his luck asa bat; keptwicketonseveral occasions. DEANE, F.-Invaluable at cover -point ; exhibited sterling defence on several occasions , but rather lacks dash. HEADLAM, C.-A good wicket -keeper, andbetter at stumping than catching ; showed.considerable improvement as a bat . MARSH, F. J.-A stylish bat ; cuts well ; and showedvast improvement; a safe catch but rather slow in the field . ROGERS, A.-A most dangerous bat, generally getting runs whenthey were most wanted; does not knowwhatit is to be beaten ; bowled well attimes , although perhaps hardly so fast as heretofore , andappears to have lowered his action somewhat; cannot cover muchground in the field . ROGERS, P. With his brother bore the brunt of the attack ; the wickets were against him, but could be depended on to keep downruns ; he also made s o m e; slowin thefield. SMITH ,W.-Comes of a cricketing family , whose reputation he worthily main- tained . A quick scoring bat, does not sacrifice effect for style , and remarkably smart between the wickets ; covers a lot of ground in the field , a n da safe catch.
