A very dangerous batsman, scoring very fast when set ; drives and cuts with great power ; good field ; played a little last year. PHILIPSON , H. (Eton and Oxford).-One of the best amateur wicket -keepers ofthe day; is a good bat and usually scores ; played little last year. STODDART, A. E.-O n e of the best amateurbatsmen, combiningpowerand freedom of style ; has no superiors as an out-field ; a very useful change b o w l e r. THORNTON, G.-A steady bat, with good defence , and an excellent slow bowler ; did not play in 1898 . VERNON, G. F. (Rugby).-Hits with great vigour , and scores very fast ; very fine out-field . with a sure pair of hands. WEBBE, A. J. (Harrow and Oxford).-A batsman with excellent defence , cutting very smartly ; one of the very best bats in England on a difficult wicket; a safe field . WELLS,C. M.
