Gilman (1896-7-8 ), captain : A fine bat and brilliant hitter , but will not always play his own game. Except for one fine effort mostof his best innings this year were not played in school matches. A splendid field , andcan bowl a little . Has madea capable and popular captain . L. D. Bailey (1896-7-8 ) : Hard-working and plucky wicket -keeper ; at times brilliant , A most useful bat , being generally to be relied on for runs . Should cultivate a more orthodox style , especially on the on-side . A. E. Hunt (1897-8 ), captain 1899 : Goodall-round player . Hits hard whenset , with a fine stroke past cover . Hisbowling has been very useful , and he has taken morewickets than last year, though he is scarcely so steady as he was. Fine field at short slip . C. S. Lee (1897-8 ) : Muchimproved bat, having a good square cut, by whichhemakesmanyruns . Auseful change bowler . Goodcover-point , but occasionally fumbles ground fielding . G. E. Barry (1898 ), secretary , 1899 : Came onwonderfully in his bowling, and kept up his improved form fairly regularly . A nerratic but improving field . Has very vague ideas of batting , but should improve with care. A. S. Bailey (1898 ) : A useful and stylish bat, and has played some good innings ; might do with less flourish . Clever and energetic field anywhere. R. C. Halse (1898) : Steady bat with stubborn defence , buthas several weak strokes . Has not quite come up to expectations . Goodand plucky field andcatch . R. P. Culver (1898 ) : Most reliable bowler in the team, always keeping downruns, and unlucky in not getting more wickets ; keeps a beautiful length . Hits hard in a style of his own. Rather slack field . J. C. Wootton (1898 ) : Much improved in batting since the beginning of the year , playing straight andhard. With more strength , next year should bevery useful . W a sa fine field in the deep field , but grew very slack before the end of term. J. P. Kingdon (1898) : Has madegreat strides since last year, and, though rather uncertain , has played some very good innings . Takes great pains both in batting and fielding . C. E. Coles (1898 ) : Very disappointing . As abathas good style , but fails to make runs . Promised well at first as a bowler , butfell off so muchas to be useless . His fielding is the redeeming feature of hisplay B A T T I N GA V E R A G E S . Inns. T i m e s notout. M o s tin R u n s. a nI n n s. A v e r a g e. A .E . H u n t J. P.K i n g d o n A .S. Bailey J.
