James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1899

1 9 4 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' ANNUAL. his baddays. A brilliant field at extra cover . J. G. Holman (11·28) : Rathera disappointing bat ; he had plenty of good strokes , but rarely stayed long enoughto showthem. Fair change bowler, but apt to get short . A slow and rather lazy field . E. O. Jones (14:28 ) : The most run-getting batsman in the team, playing a strong offensive game, and hitting all round the wicket ; played a fine innings against Exeter, but sometimes threw awayhis wicket from over-eagerness . As bowler bore the brunt of the work, anddid it well , only he sent downtoo manylong hops to leg. Goodfield . F. A. Stokes (6-25 ): Avery steady bat , with anice cut , but must learn to punish loose balls . Avery fair point . K. T. Kempe (7.7 ) : A steady and methodical bat ,but play- ing in an exaggerated style , sadly wanting freedom ; if he can get out of this fault will do well another year. A good field , and one of the safest catches in the eleven . F. A. de Rougemont (6.6 ): Improved considerably in batting as the term went on ; very stiff in style , but at times hit hard. Slowin the field . F. T. Bulteel (5.92) : Began the term with some useful slogging innings , but went all to pieces before the end. Abad catch and indifferent ground fielder . P. C. Heath (4.25 ) : Cameon very muchin the last few weeks with the bat, and played an invaluable innings which wonthe matchagainst Munro's ; ought to beof great use next year. A slow but industrious field . G. B. Daubeney (2-3 ) : A poor bat, though he kept his wicket up well on one occasion , anddid not take enough pains in practice . In a year's time should makea useful bowler. F a i rfield. B O W L I N GA V E R A G E S . Overs. Maidens. Runs. E .O . J o n e s F . S. P a r d o e J. G .H o l m a n F .T.Bulteel G .E. O w e n E. F.
