James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1899
1 2 4 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' ANNUAL. (4) S u s s e xv. OxfordUniversity. Brighton, June 23, 24 and 25. Rain interfered with the game considerably , to the extent of a complete blank on the second pay. The first day's cricket was fairly even , if , perhaps , slightly in favour of Oxford , whohad scored 98 for one wicket after dismissing the Countyfor 301. The rain on the second daymadethe wicket abit difficult onthe following morning, andE. C. Lee, whocarried out his bat for 66, alone withstood Bland's bowling for any time . Though there was little chance of finishing the match the Sussex captain declared his innings , but to little purpose as events proved . The game was drawn . Sussex , 301 and 111 (3 wickets , innings declared ) ; total , 412. Oxford University , 221 and 107 (2 wickets ) ; total , 328. B A T T I N G A V E R A G E S . I n n s. T i m e s n o to u t.
