The matches unnumbered have been treated in previous reviews . (1) S u r r e yv. Yorkshire. Bradford, June 6, 7 and 8. Aremarkable match in manyrespects . Raindid not admit of any play on the first day, and no doubt its influence on the wicket to some extent , if not altogether , was responsible for the extraordinary character of the cricket subsequently . At the end of the second day there was little in the game on paper, as Yorkshire were only two runs ahead with a couple of wickets to fall . A tthat time it hardly looked as if the gamewould be finished . But some startling cricket was in store . The stand of Hirst and Haigh for the ninth wicket of Yorkshire fairly astonished everybody. For two hours and three- quarters the pair were together , and when Haigh was out for 85 the partner- ship hadproduced 192 runs. Then LordHawkedeclared the innings , leaving Hirst to carry out his bat for 130. Surrey, left with 158 to make, one would have thought might even then have well saved the game. As it was, they madea miserable show against Rhodes' bowling, and were all out for 37. Yorkshire , 297 (9 wickets , innings declared). Surrey, 139 and37 ; total , 176. M a i d e n s. R u n s.
