Jackson as well as Wainwright, Yorkshire were able, in winning the toss , to get such a good score on the wet wicket that their position was fairly secured . Going in first the Yorkshiremen were in all the first day. They scored at an unusually slow rate for them, and, indeed , werebatting five hours for 230 runs . E v e nthen they had three three wickets still to fall , and on the second morning these added 47 runs. Ofthe total of 277 F. W. Milligan was responsible for 74, Tunnicliffe 66, and Rhodes 50 not out. W h e nNotts went in, though the wicket was getting difficult , A. O. Jones (32) andShrewsbury(25) madea good start .
