Somerset, 218 and 51 (2 wickets ) ; total, 269. (17) Gloucestershirev. S u r r e y. Clifton , Aug. 23, 24 and 25. Thecontinuous rain on the second day was all against Gloucestershire , w h ohadhad to field practically throughout the first day while Surrey made an innings of over 300. Surrey's total was the work mainly of four batsmen, Hayward(38), Mr. Druce (46), Baldwin (81) and Mr. Jephson (82). The two last namedadded 157 for the fifth wicket . O n the third day the bowlers had everything in their favour. Richardson and Haywardutilised the chance fully , so muchso that in Gloucestershire's two innings there were only four scores over twenty, andbut one (Mr. Townsend's second of 36 not out) over thirty . Richardson's bowling had very muchto do with the result . Surrey wonby an innings and 134 runs. Surrey, 304. Gloucestershire , 53 and 117 ; total , 170. Overs. Maidens. R u n s.
