The Derbyshire Eleven made such a disappointing show against Mold's bowling in the first innings that under any circumstances they would have found it hard to save the game. A s it was, Lancashire got such a big advantage that the result was never in doubt. Albert Ward(162) and Panl (65) put on 171 for Lancashire's first wicket , and nine others got into double figures , with a collective result of 420. A snowstorm during the night made the wicket almost unplayable , and Mold bowled with even greater success than on the first day. Derbyshire's highest score in their second innings was Bagshaw's 20. Storer ,theDerbyshire wicket -keeper , however, went on with slows , and with such surprising success that only 66 were added by the remaining batsmen. Far andawaythe best display of batting on the side of Derbyshire was Bagshaw's first innings . Going in first he carried out his bat, scoring 114 of 210 from the bat. Next to Bagshaw Mr. L. G. Derbyshire , going in first , had the best of the wicket , and their lead of 105 on the first innings would very nearly have wonthemthe match hadthe weather held up. A sit was, the Warwickshire batsmen could do little with Davidson's bowling, and his seven wickets cost less than 11 runs apiece . Mr. E. Maynard Ashcroft, who only made his début in first -class the week before against Surrey , played particularly good cricket . He scored 50 not out in the first , andwas not out (8) again in the second innings . Mr. H. W. Bainbridge's 33 wasthe best figures in Warwickshire's first total of 159.
