It may fairly , too , be claimed that in the matter of ill -luck they were even more unfortunate than Leicestershire . The loss of two such bowlers as H u l m eand Porterwasof itself a great misfortune. But, even as the eleven was constituted , they were really a better all -round side than their performances would seem to indicate . They did not win one of their sixteen matches, it is true , but on several occasions they had the very worst of bad luck . Both Yorkshire and Lancashire had great trouble to beat themin one matchat least ; indeed, Derbyshire was only beaten at Liverpool byLancashire , and at Derbyby Yorkshire , by one wicket in each case. B u t besides that more than one of the seven games was certainly in Derbyshire's favour . All-round the County had a better side than its paper form suggested . Opponents .
