H ewas himself in his day an excellent all -round player , one of thebest Sutton-in-Ashfieldhasturnedout. CADWALLADER, E. G. (May). A journalist by profession ; after a short apprenticeship in England , mostly in Sussex , he went to South Africa , wherehe waswell known as a sporting writer . For some time he was Secretary of the South African Cricket Association , and had a good deal to dowith the visit of the first South African team to England. CHEESEWRIGHT, F. E. (March22). One of the best cricketers in South London. Forfifteen years the mainstay of the Brixton Club, for which he scored fourteen hundreds. H e died. at Picton (N.S.W), having been obliged to leave Englandfor his health . DRAPER, HENRY(January). Played occasionally for Kent between 1870 and 1880; a useful fast bowler and goodbat. Latterly acted as umpire in Countymatches, on Kent's nomination . H a dbeen coach at Tonbridge School for manyyears . GOODHEW, ILLIAM(M a y) . A contemporary of Willsher , Baker, Bennett and Fryerin the KentEleven, and one of the most useful all -round players in the fifties and early sixties . A good bowler , run-getting bat, and useful field . H a dlatterly acted as coach at King's School , Canterbury . FRANCE, CAPT. HAYHURST(March2). Somefew years ago played frequently for the Marylebone Club, and with some success . H O N E, L E L A N D. A sa wicket- keeper he was in his day quite in the forefront of amateurs , and acted in that position in the teamLordHarris took to Australia in 1879 . MARTINGELL, WILLIAM (September 29). The only survivor of the celebrated match between England and Kent at Canterbury, in 1841. Fifty years ago was quite one of the best all -round players . After playing some ten years for Kent he assisted his native County of Surrey, and with great success , for about eighteen years . Represented the Players against the Gentlemenfrequently . For manyyears had been engaged at Eton College . W a sin his eightieth year. MACAULAY, THOMAS(April). In his day well knownin Leicestershire cricket , particularly as a fast bowler. W a sone of the Committeeof the Leicester- shire Club for years , and took the greatest interest in its cricket . NAPPER, WILLIAM(July). A familiar figure in Sussex cricket for half a cen- tury . Agood left -handed bat and right -handbowler, and a fine field . H e wasone of the best all -round and effective cricketers Surrey had in the days of Taylor, Box, Dean, and others . Represented the County in 1845 for Kent,but had played for the Gentlemen several years before . Akeen follower of the gameto the last . Hadjust completed his eightieth year.
