H.-Goodbowler and field ; an effective batsman with plenty of h i t. JONES, A. O. (Cambridge) .- Avery good bat , and excellent field at slip . OSCROFT, P. W .-G o o dbat andfield . WRIGHT, C. W. (Charterhouse and Cambridge ).- Avery good bat , with good defence ; an excellent wicket -keeper . S O M E R S E T S H I R E . DUNLOP, C. E.-(Merchiston).---- Very muchimproved bat ; splendid field any- where ; bowls occasionally . FOWLER, G. (Clifton and Oxford).-A very useful cricketer , and has done good service to his County this season all round ; might have bowled a little m o r ewith advantage. HEDLEY, Capt. (Marlborough).-Bowled as well as ever, but rather gone off in batting andfielding . HILL, V. T. (Winchester and Oxford).-Free left -hand hitter ; perhaps rather too eager at starting ; good short slip ; bowls sometimes . NEWTON, A. E . -(Eton and Oxford).-" Kept very finely throughout the season , especially at Lord's ; batted very well at times . و د PALAIRET, L. C. H. (Repton and Oxford).-Quite one of the best batsmen of the day ; correct and stylish , with any number of good strokes ; rather out of form this year ; good change bowler and fine field . PALAIRET, R. C. N. (Repton and Oxford).-A really fine bat, with any amount of pluck; good short slip ; can bowl a little ; prevented by an accident from playing towards end of season . PORCH, R. B. (Malvern ).-Steady bat, with some good strokes ; saved one match for his County by steady defence ; fine field anywhere. PHILLIPS , F. A. (Rossall and Oxford).-His first season with Somerset, and a great acquisition ; fine punishing bat and excellent field . ROE, W. N. (Cambridge).-Batted exceedingly well whenever he could play good field ; seems to improve with age. STANLEY, H. T. (Eton).- A nimproved batsman, playing rather a freer game ; a verykeen cricketer ; indifferent field . TOLLER, M. H. First season with Somerset ; hardly came up to expectation as a bat ; good field and fine thrower ; fair change bowler. WICKHAM, Rev. A. P. (Marlborough and Oxford ).-A fine wicket -keeper , though not quite so accurate as formerly ; a careful and painstaking b a t s m a n . WOODS, S. M. J.-(Brighton and Cambridge). A mainstay to any side , and a mostpopular captain ; did some grand batting performances last year ; extraordinary field ; came on again in his bowling . S T A F F O R D S H I R E . MCHARG, G . -Very fine wicket -keep ; makesruns whenwanted. STRATTON, H. D.-A very patient bat, fine defence , and always gets runs ; goodfield . W A L K E R, W .E .-Goodfast bowler ; patient bat , generally getting runs .
