R.-Avery sound defensive bat, and has played one or two very good innings ; a good field . HIGGINS-BARNARD, F. T.-A hard-working cricketer , though has not beenquite so fortunate as in formeryearswiththe bat; a fine field . M A U L, Capt. S. D.-Only helped the Countyon one or two occasions , but is a great addition to the side when he will play. A very fine free bat and magnificent field . MITCHELL, F. H.-Hasonly played four innings , but should prove a great acquisition another year ; a very good bat and excellent field , and bowls a little. D EPARAVICINI , P. J.-Still bats with all his old vigour , and has played several very fine innings , and has saved his side on more than one occasion ; a mostcheery andexcellent captain . STRATTON, J. W .-Has been unlucky but is a dangerous bat whenset , and a fairly good fast bowler. WEATHERBY, J. T.-Very hard hitter , and when set will demoralise any bowling; fine field . WEATHERBY, J. H.-Goodbat, but has been unlucky ; capital field on the off- side. WOODBRIDGE, C. M.-Afine hitter and fair field ; a fast but somewhat erratic b o w l e r. D E R B Y S H I R E . CURGENVEN, H. G. (Cambridge).- Auseful all -round cricketer , promising bat, andgoodfield . EVERSHED, S. H. (Clifton ), captain . A hard-hitting bat ; smart field ; cap- tained the teamwith excellent judgment. M A R S D E N, G. A. A useful bat; one of the finest out-fields of the day. WALKER, G. G. A left -hand fast bowler ; very effective on his day ; a hard hitting bat. WRIGHT, L. G.-A painstaking bat ; plays the gamealways , and rarely fails any wicket ; a very smart field at point . D U R H A M . ADAMSON, C. (Durham School ).-A fine free-hitting and improving batsman good slow left -armbowler , and splendid field . BOUSFIELD, R .-Brilliant bat and field , and useful change bowler ; could only play in later 1897 matches. DOBSON, T. K.-Most reliable bat andbrilliant field ; unable to assist in 1897 . ELLIOT , E. W. (Wellington ).-Very reliable and stylish batsman , and brilliant field. MACGREGOR, A. V.-Sound batsman, left -hand; good mediumpace right -arm bowler, and fine field ; business prevented his playing regularly . MALLETT, R. H .-Goodfree -hitting bat; useful change bowler, and fine field . W E L C H, A. W .-Steady bat ; very useful slow right -arm bowler, with good break; reliable field ; unable to assist his County in 1897 except on one occasion. WHITWELL, J. F. (Uppingham).-Very reliable bat and good field . WHITWELL, W. F. (Uppingham), captain .-Excellent fast bowler , right -arm ; free -hitting bat, and good field .
