1 9 8 L I L L YW H I T E ' SC R I C K E T E R S' A N N U A L. KellyCollege.-F. Holman(14.58 ) : Asteady and patient bat ; if he could buthaveacquired an effective forward stroke might have reached ahigh standard ofexcellence ; probably one of the best bowlers ever produced by the College ; a painstaking captain , but certainly on one occasion lost his head. C. S. M . Davenport (18-9 ) : In spite of possessing a host of faults , by sheer pluck and dash proved himself a most dangerous bat ; his innings against Exeter School andin the return match against Plymouth College were admirable displays ; an excellent field and safe catch ; fair change bowler, who might have been utilised more. E. Spencer (18-25 ) : Perhaps the safest bat in the team, andin that department madevast improvement; a good field , but gained little success with the ball . C. E. S. Scott (12.83 ): A muchimproved bat, whoplayed some goodinnings , notably against Exeter School ; rather inclined to go in for free hitting before being properly set ; in the field displayed considerable dash. C. H. Ching (20-25 ): Improved wonderfully in his batting ; his cutting was especially effective , though his defence was weak, and he was rather lucky to gain the highest average ; very fair field . L. C. Liddell (7.5 ) : Developed a gooddeal as a batsman, and played several steady innings , besides hitting hardon occasions ; a good field at slip , whenhe was attending ; went off con- siderably in bowling, seemingly taking little pains about it. C. W Bourne (8.5) : Batted in nice style , but frequently failed to score ; there is a weakplace somewhere; workedhard and withfair success as the stumperof theteam. E. F. Evetts (12-2 ) : A steady though rather awkward bat, failing to punish loose bowling sufficiently ; fair field , but slow. F. S. Pardoe (15) : Has the possible makings of a fair bat , and made one or two good scores ;haspractically only one stroke , which he indulges in somewhatrecklessly ; very slow in the field . F. G. P. Remfry (875) : Apainstaking bat , who, without possessing any good strokes , would often keep his wicket up at a critical period ; the best field in the team. J. G. Holman (4.8 ) : Improved a good deal in batting as he gained more confidence , and with increased strength m a ydo well another year ; rather uncertain in the field , and does not display sufficient energy .
