Batted in excellent form at the commencementof the season, but lost confidence after a run of ill -luck , and hardly played up to his form in the later matches. Fielded smartly at short slip , andmadean excellent leader . J. Warden (34) : A good bat, with excellent defence ; rather ugly style , but plays every ball hard to the carpet . Safe catch in the deep field . G. Warden (10) : Stubborn defence , with good style , but has a dangerous habit ofgetting his leg in front of the wicket ; combines an excellent field anywhere. E. Rivaya (10) : A muchimproved bat this season ; has a style of his own, but played several most useful innings . A very smart cover -point , and bowled successfully whenever put on. Might have been mademoreuse of as a bowler . L.Adams(15) : Neat and stylish bat, but lacks driving power. Apoor judge of a run. M a d ean excellent secretary to the club . A. Fleuret (7): Fair bat, punishing loose bowling ; perhaps too fond of trying to pull straight balls ; smartfield . R. Bovet (3) : Useful left -handbowler ; weakbat, and uncertain field . E. Rodriguez (4) : Kept wicket most consistently , and let few byes go ; fair bat. F. Rodriguez (11) : A very sharp and plucky point . A nexcellent eye, butplays with rather a crooked bat. H. Jordan (11): Showedgreat promise at the commencementof the season , comingdownhard uponevery loose ball . W a s unwell in the middle of the term, and never quite recovered his strength or form again. Veryslow in the field , but safe when he got to the ball . G. Backus (1) : Plays with a very straight bat , and has a good long reach . Highest score 134 not out. F. H. Arnold (1896) : A very steady bat ; showed great promise at the beginning of the season . A capital field at cover -point . L. le Bouvier (1897 ) : A very good slow bowler , right- hand. Shows promise as a bat , but must learn to be steadier on his feet . A good field . W o nthe average ball , taking 39 wickets at an average of 7.12 . G. Crowther : Aright -handbowler, mediumpace, very erratic . A very awkward bat. Fields well . P. B. Martin : Auseful change bowler, right -hand medium, without muchlength . Wouldbe good with perseverance . A good field , but weakbat. F. Lace: Apoor bat at present . Musttry to get rid of all flourish , and go straight for the ball . Agood field at point . H. Birkett : Hasimproved as abat, and plays fairly straight . Fields well . H. C. Devas : Plucky bat,... andhits hard; notm u c hdefence. Slowin thefield . R. Bridger: A moderate bat; mustlearn to play straight . Slowin the field . G. D.
