Wilson (1895-6-7 ) : A thoroughly keenand good captain , under w h o ma moderate team developed into a good one. Beganthe season with some really fine innings , but latterly wasmuch handicapped by a broken finger . Slow right -hand bowler , with considerable commandof the ball and knowledge of the game. *H. V. Spencer (1895-6-7 ) : G o o dm e d i u mleft-handbowler, w h odid a lot of hardworkfor the School. A t his best was very difficult to play. Useful hard-hitting batsman, and good field on the off-side . *W. G. Cobb (1896-7 ) : A correct steady batsman, who played consistently well throughout the term , though unfortunate at Lord's . H ewasalways difficult to get out , and was very good on the leg-side . Good field at cover , and a very useful slow bowler . *W. L. Y. Rogers (1897 ) : Good steady batsman, who was seen to great advantage at Lord's . Might perhaps infuse a little more vigour into his play. Excellent hard-working field , especially in the country . C. S. Hannay (1897 ) : A most promising bat , with several nice strokes on the off -side , who was a better player than his average wouldindicate . A safe field , though rather slow, and a fair change bowler. *H. A. Nicholls (1897) : A mediumright -hand bowler, who did several good performances . Besides this he played some useful innings , and but for a markedweakness on the leg stump would be quite a good bat. Poor field . E. A. Gowers (1897 ) : A safe , if not stylish wicket -keeper, whomissed exceed- ingly few chances . It was very unfortunate that his hands gave waybefore theclose of the season . Didlittle with the bat, but is likely to improve. *J. A. Davenport (1897) : A stylish batsman, who hardly ever did himself justice in matches. A good field anywhere, and a very capable reserve wicket -keeper . C. A. G. Luther (1897 ) : Improved. wonderfully towards the close of the season , when his cutting and off -driving were frequently brilliant . Good field at point . Very promising for next year . *R. T. Lee (1897 ) : Did not improve so m u c has abatsmanas had been hoped. W a sa very fair slow bowler , who always kept a good length . A capital field . *A. G. Whittall (1897) : Played some good innings , but on the whole was rather uncertain . Ahard- working field , whowas a good catch in the country .
