Wilson : Has fulfilled his post as captain excellently , and showngreat keenness all through , especially in look- ing after the fielding . Is a fair change bowler and a good bat, but has had badluck all through the season . C. R. Darlington : A good bat, with a nice style ; as a rule successful on hard wickets . Too anxious to score quickly . Agood field , and safe catch anywhere. H. F. Adkins : Agood fast bowler, but wasgreatly handicapped by his illness at the beginning of the season , anddid not regain his length till the M.C.C. match. As a bat has improved wonder- fully , having played one or two very good innings . L. V. Harper : As a bat has shownm u c himprovement on last year's form, having got rid of his flourish to a great extent . Hasa fault of getting leg before wicket , which he should try to get out of. Asafe catch in the long field . N. V. Jacob : Wasquite the safest bat up to the middle of the season , but then seemed to get rather stale . His two not-out innings v. Loretto were especially noteworthy . Should try and improve his fielding and catching , which at times is very bad. O. B. Webb: Disappointing as a bat, being far too anxious to hit out wildly . Has improved as a bowler , being less erratic and having got out of his habit of bowling no-balls . Agood field . P. A. C. Campbell : A good careful bat both onfast and slow wickets . Has rather a stiff style . A fair change bowler and a good fielder at point . G. H. Stolterforth : Quite uptothe average of our wicket-keepers , being excellent on the leg-side , and holding most of his catches. A t timeshe hasbatted well. F. H. Cowell: Agoodslowleft -h a n d bowler with a curl from the off . Should try and allow for this more, and bowl fewer leg-balls . Is quite youngstill , and if he takes pains should improve. A poor field , and should try, whenbatting , to keep his head more. T. B e e c h a m: Bats in good style , though is too inclined to play forward , having several times lost his wicket this wayon a slow pitch . A good field at cover -point . L. H. Draper: A fair medium-paced bowler, with a break from the off . A good bat in practice , though has seldom comeoff in matches. A safe field . R U G B YS C H O O L Captain for 1897.-E. R. Wilson.
