Holdendelivered 8 no-balls , Marryat6, MARLBOROUGHELEVEN IN 1897.-W. Prest (captain ) : Its captain took the greatest pains with the eleven , and had a very successful season . A fine bat w h e nonceset, scoring fast , cutting and driving very well . Must learn not to gethis leg in front of the wicket . Veryuseful , safe field . *L. P. Collins : The best bat in the eleven , and ought to become first -class , his off -drive and cutting being very fine . Has shown himself a splendid field in the country and at third m a n. *F'. S. Lewis : A very good bowler (mediumright ), with plenty of staying power , which more than once has proved useful . Would be a good bat with more care . Aslow and variable field . H. Etlinger : Has been a good , though rather uncertain bat, showing att mesthat hecan hit . Asplendid field at cover-point. R. H. Spooner : Hasmadegreat strides in batting , his off -drives being very hard and well timed . Hasproved an excellent wicket -keeper ,though on several occasions has suffered frombadhands. W. K. P. French : Asteady and careful bat ,but cannot play fast bowling . Ought to be very good next year , if not tooconfident . Mustlearn to be quicker in the field . *J. E. S. Holden : Afair bat, often proving useful . Agood bowler , taking wickets whenneeded, but rather apt to bowl no-balls . A useful field in the country andat third m a n. Marryat : Disappointing as a fast bowler . Should not try to bowl too fast , but keep a good length . Mustimprove his fielding . Apoor bat. H. C. B. Gibson : A sa left -handslow bowler has had great success , as clearly shownby School matches. Varies his pacc and pitch extremely well . Should become a good bat with morestrength . Developing into a brilliant short slip . H. F. Mont- gomery : A careful straight bat, but uncertain at times . Ought to be useful next year. A variable field ; sometimes good. *R. H. Brand: Has unfor- tunately beenvery muchhandicapped owing to badhealth , but becamebetter towards the end of term. A free bat, with good on-drive . A fair field at point. R .
