Ryder (captain ) : Thebest bat in the team; plays a steady game, but does not spare loose balls , and is a good judge of a short run: useful left -hand bowler of mediumpace, and very smart field . especially in the slips , where his long reach is of great service to him. Throws in very hard from the country . Amost painstaking captain , who thoroughly understands the game. W. L. H. Moss : Mediumright -handbowler , withgoodcommandover the ball , and varies his pace well . Goodbat, and hits hard, but has not come up to last year's promise. W a sunlucky in both departments at the beginning of the season , but in later matches has been playing up to form ; excellent field , and can bowl lobs in an emergency . *M. F.R. Wingfield : Has failed to realise the promise of last year, a run of badluck early in the season no doubt accounting somewhatfor this failure ; playedwell in the Westminster match. Possesses a very good off -drive , but tries to makeuse of it too frequently ; very slow between the wickets ; moderate field . S. Heaton : Ayoung and steady bat of great promise , who obtains most ofhis runs on the leg side ; is not yet strong enough to score heavily ,but ought to makea lot of runs next season ; good field and safe catch, but is too fond of using one hand. C. C. T. Doll: Agoodbut somewhatsluggish bat ; mustmake his strokes with more freedom , though he occasionally shows good hitting powers; excellent field at cover-point , but must " dash in " more to save the short runs . H. N. Hole : Afair bat, whoplays a good innings at times ; has a very poor forward stroke , and is too fond of trying to pull good length straight balls to square leg. Good right -hand bowler of mediumpace; keeps an excellent length , and rarely sends downa loose ball . G. Crosdale : A smart wicket-keeper, but has not shownmuchimprovement on last year's form; is especially good on the leg side ; shows great promise with the bat, but is inclined to play too slackly at the nets ; makesmost of his runs by a peculiar leg stroke of his own. V. G. Harmsworth : A fast but somewhat erratic left- hand bowler, with a natural break, but must learn to keep off the leg side ; occasionally gets in a ball that might beat any batsman . Avery fair bat , and musttake pains in that direction , but is too slow between the wickets ; a very badfield . *G. K. Asprey : A promising bat with a nice free style , whois not
