FORTUNATELY Warwickshire's batting stood out conspicuously well through- out the season , or the eleven would have proved muchworse than they did. As it was, they only won three of the eighteen matches they played , and two of these were over Leicestershire , whocould only claim one victory . The excel- lent wickets at Birminghamenabled the side to show up generally well as run- getters , and they played up mostly , and more than once under difficulties , with great pluck. In the International Rugbyfootballer , J. F. Byrne, they secured agreat addition to the batting strength . It was in the bowling that the side wasdecidedly weak. O nthe run-getting wickets prevalent the attack was in nowayformidable , and a good fast bowler of real capacity would have made all thedifferenceto the out-cricket. Opponents.
