The exceptions were Messrs . Bromley -Martin (137 ) and Champain (60), who accounted for 197 of 244 from the bat. Sussex had to bat on a byno meanseasy wicket . Still , as it was, their play was very tame. W . L. Murdoch's second score of 46 not out was the highest on the side . But Ranjitsinhji had the best aggregate with 36 and 20.
