W a r w i c k s h i r e . Oval, May13, 14 and 15. Warwickshirehad the good luck to get first use of a fine wicket , but failed to take advantage of the chance . As it happened Richardson bowled at his best , and Warwickshire's highest score in the first innings was Walter Quaife's 33. Surrey started badly by losing Brockwell without a run, but there Warwickshire's successes ended. At the end of the first day Surrey had scored 181 for the loss of only two batsmen , and this sum they increased to 602 before Warwickshire's outing cameto a close . Abel showed more freedom thanusual in getting his 250, Mr. Keyhit with characteristic vigour for his 110not out , and Mr. Leveson-Gowerbatted well for his 81. Warwickshire, to avert defeat , would have had to have been in all the third day. W. G. Quaife (69), Walter Quaife (45), and Mr. Bainbridge (33) madea good start for them, andwith better support might have saved the game. A sit was the tail did little , and Surrey wonin the endby an innings and 222 runs . Surrey, 602. Warwickshire, 153 and 227; total , 380. Richardson(1st inns. Warwickshire) Overs. Maidens. R u n s.
