They were in for the whole of the first day, bar a quarter of an hour , andin this time made255, of which Mr. Brann contributed 66. This total , as subsequent events proved , Notts treated very lightly . The captain , Mr. J. A. Dixon, himself headed their aggregate by 13. His 268 was nearly double of his previous highest , and is the largest score made so far on the Trent Bridge Ground. H e was still in whenhe closed the innings with 448upfor seven wickets . Sussex in the end wanted 193 to avert an innings defeat. This, whatwith the cold weather and the rain , they were unable to do. Notts w o nbyaninnings and 74 runs.
