Lancashire's first visit to Southampton for 27 years . They celebrated it , too , by defeating a moderate eleven of Hampshire , with eight wickets to spare . Mr. Maclaren was not playing for Lancashire , and Mold was also away. Still , the latter's bowling wasnot really wanted, although Hampshiredid fairly well to score 181 and 253. To their aggregate of 434 Mr. H. F. Ward(40 and 39), Barton (27 and 39), Webb(27 and 40), were the chief contributors . O nthe other side , Baker(140) played in his most attractive style , and Sugg (71), Smith (58), and Paul (50) lent him useful assistance . Lancashire , 372 and 63 (2 wickets ) ; total , 435. Hampshire, 181 and 253 ; total , 434. (2) Hampshirev. Warwickshire. Birmingham, May27, 28 and 29 . Thoughthe wicket was not quite easy just at the outset it improved so fast that Warwickshire were able to keep in all the first dayandscore 339 for eight wickets . The total ultimately realised 382 , of which W. G. Quaife was responsible for 136 not out . Whenthey went in the first time Hampshire found run-getting a little difficult owing to the rain , and the highest scorer on the side was Mr. R. A. Bennett, with 38 not out . In the follow on, on animproving wicket , they fared muchbetter . Mr. Robson (75), Mr. Hill (56)- w h oput on 107 for the first wicket -W e b b(44 not out), Barton (39), and Baldwin (28) all scored freely , with the result of a total of 262 for the loss of four batsmen. In that state the game ended, rain preventing further play. Hampshirewere then 57 on with six wickets to fall . Hampshire, 177 and 262 (4wickets ) ; total , 439. Warwickshire , 382 .
