Secretary : W. Barclay Delacombe, 7, Irongate , Derby. THOUGHthe Derbyshire Eleven showed very creditable all-round cricket at times , their record of the year did not fulfil the promise of 1895. Of the 16 matches played , six were lost and only four w o n. Thefour victories , too , wereall over the weaker Counties , two over Hampshire, and one each over Leicestershire and Warwickshire. On the other hand, some of the perform- ances were decidedly good . For instance , the Lancashire team, second on the year's form, were only able to win at Derbyby 37 runs. O ntheir ownground, too , against Yorkshire , Derbyshire saved the game in fine style , closing their second innings with a total of 450 for 8 wickets , a capital performance against the champions of the season . Throughout the batting was above the average . Storer in particular generally was in brilliant form. Against Yorkshire at Derbyhe got a hundred in each innings , a rare achievement , and in three consecutive matches made four scores of a hundred. In wicket -keeping Storer had no superior . That Derbyshire had a run-getting side can be judged fromthe fact that there were seven averages of over 20. Davidson, who also scored over a thousand runs , batted consistently . Curiously it was in bowling that Derbyshire failed in 1896. Davidson on the dry wicket was nothing like so dangerous , and Porter was hardly ever formidable . The bulk of the work fell onHulme, who was always reliable . R e s u l t sof M a t c h e s. Matches played , 17 ; won, 4 ; drawn, 7 ; lost , 6. Club. O p n t s. Opponents. Where played .
