Acomplete reversal of the result of the previous match. Middlesex missed the batting of Mr. Hayman, and was unlucky enough to lose Mr. McGregor's assistance during the game owing to an injury to his hand. Still , Surrey's all-round cricket was up to its best standard , andthe result washardly ever in doubt. Abel, Holland, Mr. Key, and Lohmannall scored well for Surrey. Lohmann's62 not out was not only the highest but the best innings on the side. The batting of the Middlesex Elevenwas disappointing . Strangely enoughthe bowlers , Rawlin(36 and 21 not out) and Hearne (26 and 13), were themost successful run-getters . The failure of the Middlesex batsmen can be explained by the fact that Richardson was at his very best . A noticeable feature of the match, too, wasthat Abel bowled throughout the second innings of Middlesex . Surrey wonbyaninnings and 58 runs. Surrey , 300. Middlesex , 159a n d83 total , 242. Overs.
