Afterhaving all the worst of the first innings the HarrowEleven played up so pluckily that an apparently certain defeat was turned into a creditable draw. Eton, going in first on a splendid wicket , madelight of the Harrow bowling. Lubbock, whoopened the batting , laid the foundation of abig score with a well -played 56, but the most successful run-getters were Bosanquet (120) and Pilkington (101), both of whomshowed considerable freedom . The early batsmenof Harrow, with the one exception of Vibart (42), fared badly, and the best stand of the innings was Wyld(81) and Dowson(26), who put o n 101 in an hour and a quarter for the ninth wicket . Though they had a n advantage of no less than 168 on the first innings Eton were naturally tired with their double turn of fielding . As a consequence the Harrowbatsmen mostly shaped well , and a very useful stand by Studd (50) and Rattigan (72) fortheseventhwicketsavedthe side fromdefeat. A tthe finish H a r r o w ere 37runs on with two wickets in hand. I nHarrow's first innings Mitchell took six wickets for 44 runs with " lobs." July 13, 14 and 15. Bothsides were well represented , so that the victory of the Gentlemen wasthe morecreditable . It was a fine performance for themto make224, as they did , against such bowling at the finish for the loss of only four batsmen.
