T H EN I N T HA U S T R A L I A N T E M . 1 9 andup to a certain point, on the fast and true wickets , he was attended with such slight success , that he was considered of very little account by the bulk of the English public . Subsequently , however , when the pitches began to favour the bowlers, he puzzled the majority of English batsmen considerably . Ableto break the ball either way, it was rather difficult to trace the change . Whenthe ground helped him at all he was almost unplayable , and his brilliant success towards the end of the tour fully established his ability . So m u c hfor the merits of the team collectively , as well of the chief membersindividually . Trott, as already remarked, showed himself to be possessed of all the attributes of a great Captain. Never down-hearted , he wasalike equable and cheery in victories and defeats , and the success of the teamwas due in a great measure to his leadership . H eproved himself a real sportsman, and English cricketers of every kind will bear hearty testimony to the admirable wayin which the team, one and all comported themselves on the field . Off it they w o ngolden opinions from all kinds and conditions of men. The excellent impression they madein this respect was due considerably to the personality of Mr. H. Musgrove , who proved himself not only firm and capable, but also courteous and obliging in his apable managementof the team. The details of the tour follow : - Opponents. Club.
