(Clifton and Oxford ).-Useful bowler ; good bat , but most disappointing last year ; rather uncertain field . HEDLEY,Capt .(Marlborough ).-Bowled as well as ever , especiall August ; seems to be recovering his batting . HILL, V. T. (Winchester and Oxford ).-Freeleft -hand hitter , but rather too eager at starting ; fine safe field ; bowls occasionally . NEWTON, A. E.-(Eton and Oxford ).-" Kept " as well as ever , especially v. Australians ; will play more regularly this season . PALAIRET, L. C. H. (Repton and Oxford).-Quite one of the best batsmen of the day; very correct and stylish , with any number of good strokes ; im- proving lob bowler; fine field . PALAIRET , R. C. N. (Repton and Oxford ).-Quite in his true batting form last year , but unfortunately prevented by an accident from playing till late in year; good short slip canbowl a little . PORCH, R. B. (Malvern ).--Steady bat , with some good strokes ; should become useful ; very good field anywhere. ROE, W. N. (Cambridge ).-Batted exceptionally well whenever he could play , and thoroughly earned his place in the averages ; seems to improve with a g e. STANLEY , H. T. (Eton).-Muchimproved batsman; plays a free game ; a most painstaking and keen cricketer ; poor field . TRASK, W. (Sherborne ).--A correct and painstaking batsman , playing the game thoroughly ; fair change bowler. WICKHAM, Rev. A. P. (Marlborough and Oxford ).-Fine wicket -keeper , though not quite so accurate as formerly ; very careful and painstaking batsman , ashis average will show. WOODS, S. M. J.-(Brighton and Cambridge ).- Amainstay to any side , and a most popular captain ; did some grand batting performances last year ; extraordinary field , but not able to bowl much owing to a strain . S U R R E Y . JEPHSON , D. L. A. (Cambridge ).-Agood bat ; a reliable field , and very useful lobb o w l e r. KEY, K. J. (Clifton and Oxford).- Agood bať, with excellent defence and plenty of hit when required ; moderate field ; captained the eleven with great judgment and success . READ, W. W.-Plays very straight , and hits all round with great freedom ; a fine field anywhere, and can also keep wicket . SHUTER, J. (Winchester ).-A pretty bat , playing very hard, especially on the off-side; has retired fromfirst -class cricket. LEVESON-GOWER, H. D. (Winchester and Oxford ), LEWIS , R. P. (Winchester and Oxford ), also play for Surrey . S U S S E X . ARLINGTON , G. H.-A very fine hard-hitting batsman ; a very good field , but apt to be careless . BRANN, G.-A fine free bat and good field ; owing to an injury was prevented playing muchlast year. COLLINS , A.-A useful left -hand slow bowler ; good bat and field .
