1 7 4 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' ANNUAL. LANCING ELEVENIN 1896.-A. H. Goodall : Hascaptained a teamwhich has improved beyond expectations under his leadership . At first seemed to have lost all his batting , but later on played some extremely useful innings . Auseful and generally reliable bowler , and, for the most part, a reliable field . T. H. Fowler (captain for 1897 ) : A nexcellent wicket -keeper , although he has hardly come up to last year's form, but has amply atoned for this by his free and energetic batting , which has been invaluable to the team, W. H. Follett : H a squite his promising form as a bat, and has also developed into a very useful bowler, changing his pace with judgment. A reliable field . R. F. Cardale : Auseful bat, with afree style and pretty cut . Agood change medium bowler, but has hardly come up to expectations in either department. A moderate field . S. H. Daukes : Apowerful bat ; plays a far more steady game than last year ; seems to find somedifficulty with the first few overs . Avery safe out-field . R. Wilson : A batsmanwith wonderful defence and patience . His stone -walling has been of the greatest use on manyoccasions . Wretched field . *R. Hall: A fast right -handbowler. Hasbowled with varying success during the season . Fair field ; throws in well . H. B. Drake : Avery promising bat, with good strokes all round the wicket . Will improve with experience and strength . Agood field ; must master his nervousness . R. E. Drake : A n imposing bat, with plenty of pluck. Should try and get rid of his pull . C a n bowl. Fair field . R. H. C. Mertens : A batsman with plenty of freedom. Failed to fulfil his early promise . Auseful lob bowler . *C. B. G. Collier : Avery cramped bat ; lacks power and freedom .
