Good catch , and fields his own bowling admirably . G. O. Smith (Charterhouse and Keble ) : Onhis day a very fine bat , with a great variety of strokes . His innings in the 'Varsity match will never be forgotten . A very good field . C. C. Pilkington (Eton and Magdalen ) : Avery promising all -round cricketer , with a fine style of batting . H. Clayton ,14. UNIVERSITY COLLEGE ELEVEN IN 1896.-F. G. H. Clayton (captain ) : Was unfortunately unable to play very often . As a bat , perhaps , not so consistent as last year, but still very brilliant . Useful bowler and good field . K. A. Woodward: Scored consistently well all through the season, including two centuries . Fine short -slip and safe out-field . D. Christopherson : Showed a slight falling off at one period of the season , but came on again at the close . Rarely fails to score . His bowling was most useful , and he was far more successful than last year . M. Y. Barlow : Whenavailable proved himself the samedashing bat as in former years . Goodfield . G. Jordan : A really good steady bowler , accomplishing several fine performances . Extremely useful hard-hitting bat, scoring consistently . Very fine field . C. J. Reid : Rowing prevented his appearance till late in the term. Reliable bat and really good wicket-keeper. T. H. K. Dashwood: As a bat more than exceeded his school reputation . Scored well and consistently . Brilliant field . Has bowled. E.H. V. Weigall : Steady bowler, keeping an excellent length . Painstaking batwithsome good strokes . Deserves ahigher place in the averages . E. H. Gibson: Played several useful innings . Usually safe for runs. His fielding mightbe improved . G. Anderson : As a bat very difficult to dislodge . Useful field atpoint.
