CAMBRIDGEELEVEN IN 1896.-C. J. Burnup (Malvern) : A first -rate bats- man, with a very strong defence and good hitting powers . Good field anywhere . W. G. Grace , jun . (Clifton ) : A very painstaking cricketer all round ; played some useful innings last season ; rather cramped in style . Good field . Slowbowler, right hand. H. H. Marriott (Repton) : Goodbatsman, but wants morehitting power . Goodfield . N. F. Druce (Marlborough ) : Thebest batsman in the eleven ; particularly strong on the leg side ; makesruns very fast when set . Magnificent field ,especially in the slips . C. E. M. Wilson (Uppingham): A real hard-working cricketer , though rather a slow run-getter . Amediumpace bowler , and can bowl all day. W. McHemingway (Uppingham) : A most determined batsman, hitting hard all round; has a beautiful stroke . Capital out-field . F. Mitchell (Private ) : Did not keep up his reputation in 1896. Fine style of batsman, with strong defence . Mediumchange bowler. G. L. Jessop (Private ) : Goodall round. Avery fast bowler of the tear awayclass , and verydangerous on a rough wicket . Hardhitter , but rather too venturesome . Capital field and very hard working. E. H. Bray (Charterhouse ) : Good wicket -keeper , and a thoroughly sound batsman ; played two first -rate innings in the 'Varsity match. P. W. Cobbold (Eton): Aslow, right -hand bowler , with rather a deceptive action , and canbowl all day. Fair batsman. Goodfield . E. B. Shine (Private ) : A fast right -handbowler, very straight , and did good service both for Cambridge and his county. Moderate batsman, but some- times difficult to get out, as in the 'Varsity match.
