Getting first use of a fine wicket the Yorkshiremendid a very remarkable performance. Mr. Jackson, whowentin first , was fourth out at 211, ofwhichhe had contributed 117. At the end of the first day the score was 452 for seven wickets, with a second hundred (Wainwright's 126) in it. The last three wickets kept Warwickshire in the field the whole of the second dayas well. Peel (210 not out) and Lord Hawke(166) put on 240 for the eighth wicket, andHirst (85) hit so freely , whenthe latter was out, that the total ultimately r e a c h e d887. T h i sis therecordin first-class cricket. Yorkshireh a db e e ni n too long to have a real chance of playing the matchout. Warwickshire did not, indeed, go in till the third morning, and thanks to W. G. Quaife , whowas in four hours for 92 not out, only 11 wickets fell in the day. Altogether 1,138 runs were madein the matchfor 21 wickets . Yorkshire , 887. Warwick- shire , 203 and 48 (1 wicket) ; total , 251. (2) Warwickshirev. Yorkshire. Leeds, July 6, 7 and8. Thoughfortunate enough to win the toss the Warwickshire Eleven never hada look in. Mr.Bainbridge (32) and L a w(65) were seen to advantage at thestart , but the tail failed utterly , so much so that the last eight batsmen only added 45 between them. The total of the second innings fell 1 9 short of the first , although W. Quaife (45), Diver (24), Lilley (23), and Glover (22) shaped well . Yorkshire's scoring wasa little uneven. Brown(90) a n dPeel(73 not out) contributed morethanonehalf of the total of 314 from the bat. Yorkshire won by an innings and 14 runs . Yorkshire , 329 . Warwickshire, 167 and 148 ; total , 315. Considering that the Australians batted first on a fine wicket Warwickshire did fairly well to get themout for 339. The tail for once failed , and the only batsmen, notably Darling (105), Gregory (59 not out), Giffen (51), andTrott (42), who troubled the Warwickshire bowlers . Warwickshire's batting was muchmore disappointing . Diver (54 and 19), Mr. Bainbridge (22 and 23), andLilley (11 and 16) got double figures each time, but otherwise , excepting M r .Glover'ssecondscore of 30, there was no score over 25.
