W a r dlaid the foundation with a good score of 83, and all the tail did well , notably Baker (84) and Tyldesley (61). Rain had interfered considerably with the wicket by the time Notts went in. Flowers (28 and 29), Gunn (25 and 54), and Attewell (31 not out and 38) cameout well, but the tail were out of it , so muchso that the last six bats- menin the two innings only made 37. Leeds, July 20, 21 and 22. Wickets. 5 Though the scoring was uniformly fair , the run-getting did not reach a very high pitch . Lancashire did well to get Yorkshire out for 190 , but failed themselves to reach that total . Tunnicliffe (62) was the highest scorer in Yorkshire's first innings , but in the second the scoring was more level , and the best of nine double figures was Hirst's 38. Rainfell on the first night and on the second morning, and Lancashire had an almost impossible task to make 230 as the wicket was . Messrs . Rowley (33) and McLaren, w h omade82 and 31 in the match, did their best, but Peel's bowling was very effective , and with Hallam unable to bat Lancashire wereout for 107. Yorkshire wonby 123 runs . W o o d s(59) and R. C. N. Palairet (92) made a good start for Somersetshire , and their total of 367 gave thema lead of 29 on the first innings . Rainhandicapped Somersetshire when they went in a second time, and Briggs bowled with such success that the side were all out for 136, of which Nichols, who made91 in the match, scored 33. Baker (62, not out) again did the best in Lancashire's first innings . In the second the hometeam did even better , and with 107 up for one wicket would have won easily had time permitted . Goingin first Leicestershire at the end of the first dayhad scored 33 fcr four wickets . Mr. D e Trafford laid the foun- dation with 113 , and Knight and Pougher each helped him well with 86. Thetail did not uphold the character of the previous batting , and the total only reached 399. Lancashire just failed to get up to their opponents , although Sugg (151) and Ward(108) both got hundreds . Thegamewas drawn withLeicestershire 77 on and six wickets in hand.
