Thefirst three matches all ended badly, and it was only a fair amount of success in July which enabledt h e mto c o m eout better. A certain amountof ill luck still followed them. Walter Hearne madean effort to bowl again, but broke downso badly against Yorkshire at Leeds in May, that he is not likely to be able to play again-a great misfortune . A n engagement with a League Club prevented Walter Wright from helping the County at the latter part of the week, and his bowling was not always available . Against these losses maybe placed the inclusion of two amateurs likely to be of great use. Mr. C. J. Burnup's batting was consistently good , and there is every reason to believe he will be even of more assistance in the future . Another Cantab (Mr. E. B. Shine) bowled with success , and as Kentwas weak in this department his services werethe morevaluable . Mr. W. M. Bradley, the fast bowler of 1895 , only played in someof the later matches, and then was fairly successful . Opponents. R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s .
