James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1896
THE MARYLEBONB CLUB IN 1 8 9 5 . 6 7 (4) G en tlem en o f Eng land v. I Z ingar i. I Z ingari J ubilee M atch . Lord’s, June 20 , 21 and 22 . This was really a match between Gentlemen of England under another name. Perhaps the most interesting feature, from a cricket standpoint, was the reappearance of Mr. A. G. Steel. With the bat nearly everyone came off, both teams being weak in bowling, though few were prepared for such a sensa tional finish. The Gentlemen being set to get 172, Mr. W. G. Grace and Mr. Sellers went in, and were still together when the requisite number had been hit off 1 W. G., who made 134 for once out, scoring considerably faster than his colleague, At one time in the second “ hands ’* I Zingari had got 224 for half their men, yet the total did not reach 300. Mr. Stoddartwas unfortunate in being out when within eight of his hundred. In the three days 1,165 runs were compiled for only 30 wickets. I ZINGARI. First Innings. H. T.
