For the first of their two matches with the University, M.C.C. sent down a fairly good team. The opening stages were productive of very high, but at the same time consistent scoring, Mr. G. C. Mordaunt and Alec Hearne (each with 95) on their respective sides both just failing to reach three figures. Showers on the second day and night affected the ground, so that the Oxfordians fared badly against Mead and Martin. Then Bean lost his wicket ere a run had been got, and it was reserved for Captain Quinton and Mr. Hewett, by a timely stand, to place the issue beyond doubt. Marylebone won a good game by five wickets. M.C.C., 350 and 133 ( 5 wickets); total, 483. Oxford, 319 and 163 ; total, 482. (11) M .C .C . and G round v . K en t. Lord's , June 13, 14 and 15. Noteworthy for another splendid achievement by W. G., and for the appearance of H. H. Massie, the once famous Australian. Never throughout his career had the champion been seen to better advantage, and. during his second innings of 125, 50 were scored in 40 minutes. Alec Hearne (59), Mr. Mason ( 5 5 ), and Mr. L. Wilson (57) were all in great form for Kent. But Dr. Grace enabled M.C.C. to transform a deficit into a long lead, the Club winning by 111 runs. M.C.C., 184 and 298; total, 482.
