OBITUARY FOR 1896. B enham , A rthur (September 8). In the Rugbv Eleven of 1890. Though only ‘28, had already made a name for himself as a dramatic author. b B kssrorough , E arl of . B rampton , C harles (June 6). Played for Notts in the middle of the fifties^ and was engaged at Lord’s from 1859 to 1861. Was coach at Marlborough College from 1861 to 1891. ® C urtkes , H. M. (June 20). In the Eleven, as well as the Eight of West minster, played for Oxford v. Cambridge in 1811, and later on for Sussex Was for some years President of the Sussex County C.C., as well as Master of the East Sussex Foxhounds. C olman , H enry (March). One of the eleven brothers who played as an eleven in the middle of the forties against seme of the best clubs in Norfolk. m m F iluingham , G. H. (January). A member of the Harrow Eleven of 1856; he went subsequently to Oxford. Assisted in the formation of the Gentle men of Notts C.C., and did good service for it for years. A good all-round sportsman. G race , H enry (November 16). The eldest of the four brothers. Grace; him self, a good all-round cricketer. A keen and excellent all-round sportsman. 11 at > ow , E. M. (February 20). The fourth of a brotherhood of cricketers who all took part in first-class matches. Played for Harrow in 1880 and 1881, and did good service for Middlesex for some years. Was also amateur champion racquet player. H o a r e , S. (June 29). Custos at Harrow' School for many years in succession to his father. After seeing aix headmasters in George Butler, Longley- Wordsworth, Vaughan, Montague, Butler, and Weldon, he retired in 1885. H ouston , H. H. (July). A member of the Germantown and Philadelphia Cricket Clubs, lie did much to assist the development of cricket in Philadelphia. S alter , R obinson (April 11). A good cricketer and father of several good cricketers. A member of the Bromley Town and West Kent Clubs for many years. O a t e s , Capt. (March). A keen supporter of the Bickley Park C.C. till his death. Hon. Sec. of the Notts County C.C., and a liberal supporter of he game. P earkji , C. (April). For many years captain of the Northbrook Club. A good all-round cricketer, one of the best known round London. P hilcox , E. A. (August). A member of the Harrow XI. of 1892, and well- knowui later on with Sussex Clubs. Was only twenty-one years of age. R obertson , G. P. (June). In the Rugby and Oxford Elevens; he subsequently represented Victoria against New South Wales, continuing to play for the Colony till 1872. A good all-round player and did much for Australian cricket in its early days. S p y b k y , F. G. (May 81). A great collector of cricket literature, and keen sup porter of the game. Compiled a valuable register of Notts cricket. Editor of the Athletic Nctos for many years, and one of the ablest of sporting critics. Vi eelam , P j A rl (July). Played for Harrow in 1825, and in his day a good all round cricketer.
