Slow left-hand bowler, getting up very quick from the pitch, has great command over the ba ll; bowled with great success last season, and in the first innings of Surrey took all ten wickets ; excellent field and safe catch. A b e l , R o b e r t . —Born at Rotherhithe, November 30, 1858. 5 ft. 5 in . ; 9 st. 131b.; one of the best batsmen of the day ; a steady bat, with plenty of hit if the occasion requires i t ; a good field, and useful slow round-arm bowler ; scored 1,787 runs for Surrey in 1895, and had the fine average of 51 05. B a l d w i n , C.—Born at Bury St. Edmunds, December 28, 1865. A good steady b a t ; fair field; when some of the older players retire is almost sure to obtain a place in the eleven. B r o c k w e l l , W i l l i a m . —Born at Kingston, June 26, 1866. 5ft. 9 in ; l i s t . ; a very free bat, with good defence; though he did not play up to his 1894 form, yet did good service for the County last season, and had the good average of 26 86 ; a useful fast bowler at times, and smart field. H a y w a r d , T .—Born at Cambridge, March 19, 1871 Has developed into one of the best all-round players of the day ; bats in good style, and with much defence; a very useful and promising medium pace bowler, and smart field ; played good cricket throughout the past season, and had an average of 27T1 for Surrey.
