A.—A fine bat, with excellent defence, and good field; a very useful medium pace bowler; has captained the eleven with great judgment. H owitt , R. H—Good bowler and field ; an effective batsman with plenty of hit; did fairly well for the County in 1895, and played one good innings J ones , A. O. (Cambridge).—A very good bat, and excellent field at slip ; played some very good innings for the County in 1895. L owe , 1lV. H. G.—Made his debut for the County in 1895, and with a fair amount of success; is a steady bat, and good field. O soroft , P. W —Good bat and field ; has hardly played up to his form of 1894. R obinson , J. S. (Harrow and Cambridge).—Bats in excellent style, with defence as well as hit; good field; only played twice in 1895. W right , C. ^V. (Charterhouse and Cambridge).—A very good bat, with good defence ; an excellent wicket-keeper. OXFORD. B assett , H.—A good all-round cricketer, but played last year much b e low his form. C ase , W. S.—Dangerous bat, fine field, and useful change bowler. D eane , F.—Fine cover-point, and a batsman of considerable ability; was unable to play much in 1895. G melin , C. H. S.—Useful bat, possessing splendid defence and patience, and a good field. G oold , J , —Lively bat, hitting in a most fearless fashion; g o o d b ow le r , although he failed to come off for the County. H eadlam , C. —First-class wicket-keeper, but poor bat. S m ith , jun., W.—Has anything but good style, but possessing splendid defence, and can punish in a most effective manner; sure catch ; headed the batting averages of the County. W ood , G. R., captain.—The most stylish bat in the County and good field made an excellent captain. SOMERSETSHIRE. B artlett , E. W.—Was tried for the County on several occasions in 1895, and with some success; is a steady bat and good field. B tcknkll , J .—A good bat, with some hitting powrers ; is also a fair change bowler; only tried once for the County in 1895. C hallen , J. B . (Marlborough).—Fine free bat, playing slow bowling well ; fine field ; unable to play much this year. D unlop , C. K.—A very much improved bat; splendid field anywhere ; bowls occasionally. * E vans , D. L. (Loretto).—Good free bat and out-field; good change bowler F owler , G. (Clifton and Oxford).—A very useful cricketer; a powerful bats­ man; good field, and bowls fast right-hand. H edley , Capt. (Marlborough).—Free bat, out of form this year, but bowled very finely throughout.
