(Cheltenham).—A very fair bat, but brilliant in the field; there is not a quicker cover in England; bis military duties prevent him representing his county as often as could be fished. P aul , H. V. (Cheltenham and Oxford).—A hard-working and excellent a ll­ round cricketer; bowls medium round; rarely fails to make runs, and fine field anywhere. R ick , R. VC (Oxford).—Has a very fine defence, and is very steady; despite his failure for Oxford, has always done well for Gloucestershire, and came out second in the batting averages with 21*44 in 1895. Si well , C. O. H. (South Africa).—His first season with the county; is a fine- hitting bat with good defence, and with more experience should prove of great use to the County. T ownsend , C. L. (Clifton).—The best amateur slow bowler in England; took 181 wickets in first-class matches last season, and came out at the top of the list of bowlers, both for his County and for all matches; is a good bat, as his score of 95 against Somersetshire would prove, and has a great future before him. W inton , S. D. De.—A useful bat, and smart field. G race , W.G.,jun., and W. M c H kmixgway (Cambridge) play for Gloucestershire. 270 HAMPSHIRE. B arton , Captain G. 0. (Sherborne).—A good all-round cricketer; only played three times for the County in 1895. B encraft , R.—A good bat, hitting hard on the off-side; is a safe ca tch ; has captained the team with success; has done well during the past season. B radford , E. l i .—A fine bat, with good defence, and a safe f ie ld ; ought' to prove of use to the County, when his military duties permit him to play. B uckland , E. II. (Marlborough and Oxford).—His first season for Hampshire; a very good all-round cricketer, being a dangerous bat, useful bowler, and smart field. ( rttiUER, C. E. (Cambridge).—A good slow right-handed bowler, breaking both ways; splendid field ; poor b a t ; rarely plays now. F orstkb , H. W. (Eton and Oxford).—An excellent all-round cricketer ; fine bat, good left-hand slow7bowler, and excellent field ; only played twice in 1895. H kseltine , C. (Eton).—A good fast bowler and improving bat. H ill , A. J. L. (Marlborough and Cambridge).—A very useful all-round cricketer; first-rate ba t ; at times elfective bowler and sure field ; had a batting average of 28*44 in 1895. L acey , E. E. (Sherborne arid Cambridge).—A fine all-round cricketer; bats in neat style, and can hit hard ; a good field, and at times effective as a slow* round-arm bowler ; played once for the County in 1895. Qi inton . Captain E. \V. D. (Cheltenham).—One of the best bats in the A rm y ; a consistent scorer ; has a safe pair of hands in the fie ld ; played a fine innings of 178 for the County last season, and came out with the good average of 26*88. ° K k .iiAfciiH, C. .J. R. A useful bat and good field; only played once for the County iu 1895, and in the last match was very successful. R obson , C. A very useful cricketer, always safe for runs; a fair wicket­ keeper; not so successful in 1895. S jklle , D, A. E air bat, and fast bowler ; splendid field. ard , II. I .
