Dash wood: Has batted very consistently, and has always made his runs w e l l ; makes more use now of a good forward stroke. A brilliant field on his day. Has proved an excellent captain for the third time. E. IL Weiqall: Thoroughly reliable bowler, keeps a fine length, comes quickly off the pitch, and does a little work both ways. Is a sound bat, and constantly makes runs when they are badly wanted. An invaluable member of the team. A . W. White: A strong bat with a brilliant c u t ; rather weak in his forward play ; has bowled well on occasions, but his length is erratic. A good slip. E . IV. E llio t : A danger ous bat with a very unsound defence. Has some brilliant strokes all round the wicket. A moderate change bowler and a good out-field. * K . l ) . Thorburn: Can play a good innings; has yet to learn how and when to hit. A poor field. G. />. Metcalfe : A steady bat; can time the ball well, but his strokes lack variety. As a bowler has not fulfilled expectations. * B\ A . Jucomb : A free bat, with an excellent off-drive. His defence is still very weak. A disappointing bowler with a good action. *G. I). Lake : A nervous starter, but a punishing bat when set. His ground fielding and his throwing in are decidedly good. *11. It. Head!am : Shows great promise as a wicket-keeper. Surprised everybody by his batting form late in the season. E. IV. Grubb: A competent bat with a good forward stroke. At present shows no power of punishing a loose ball. A reliable field. *b\ S. P. Weston : A patient and improved b a t ; gets consider able power into his forward play in spite of his want of reach. A smart point. \
