174 u l l y w h i t b ’ s c r ick e te r s a n n u a l . B kaihii i DK livkn in 1895.— *Jt. C. Page (captain): A good safe bat until he tiu -, to hit. Vsafe held at cover-point; picks up and throws in beautifully. \ useful change bowler. As captain has learned nothing by experience. Vi\ // 11net'tson: A beautiful free bat when in form, with a particularly powerful <lT-drive and forward cut. Runs rather wildly at times. As a bowler very variable, perhaps through being over-bowled latterly. Did some good work in the slips. (!. II Packer: The best bat in the team ; may very well become first class; hits neatly all round the wicket. Fields beautifully af slip. A fair round-arm slow bowler ; rather too fond of the leg side. G 11, l ansjitId: Spoils his batting by playing right across a short ball. A good held. ( an bowl a little. T. S. b\ Pratt: Although he failed in matches was tin best bowler on the side, coming fast from the pitch. Improved as a bat, and as a held in the country. *A. B. Nesbitt: Above the average as a school wicket-keeper, although he has not improved during the season as much as we had hoped. Takes the ball clean, but is slow at stumping. *77. C. King- St< : Owes his success as a bat to his care in watching the ball; would improve further if he could cure himself of facing it. Inclined to shirk trying a hard-hit hall or a catch that requires running to, otherwise very neat in the field. / ’. Pass : An exceedingly useful change bowler, with a high action. Was improving as a bat before his accident. *7/. M. JJuthurst: Plays with a straight bat, but is never safe, whether to a half-volley or a long hop. Has disappointed us also at point, but has been useful as a change bowder. A M. (\ Xicholl: Promises excellently" as a bat when he has more strength and acquired more confidence. Has the best bowling average, but has only played in a few matches. Very weak in the field. P. J. lliggon: Should be a useful bat next year; has a good forward drive. A fair field. W, h\ B. Wannan: A nice left-hand bat, with a pretty stroke off his legs. A plucky and clean field at mid-off. *A. 11. Gordon : Has acquired a latal habit of stooping as he plays the ball. An uncertain field, who judges a catch badly. On his day a fair change bowler. *11. 0. Itoberts: Won a place in the team against IiadJcy In his fielding at point. Plays with a good straight bat.
