THE COUNTIES IN 1 8 9 5 . 1 3 5 (1) W a rw ick sh ire v . Y o rk sh ire . Bradford , May 20, 21 and 22. Though Yorkshire had a lead of no less than 165 runs on the first innings the Warwickshire eleven played up so pluckily that the game was nearly saved. As it was, Yorkshire only won with a little over five minutes to spare, getting the 107 to win in just over an hour. It was a batsman’s match, and altogether 941 runs were scored for 32 wickets. The Yorkshire tail were seen to the greatest advantage, as the last four wickets added no less than 210 runs, Lord Hawke 79, Moorliouse 74, and Hirst 64 of them. Law was the chief run-getter on the Warwickshire side with two useful scores of 89 and 42. Yorkshire won by eight wickets. Yorkshire, 363 and 109 (2 wickets); total 472. Warwickshire, 198 and 271; total, 469, (2) W a rw ick s liire v. Y o rk sh ire . Birmingham , June 27, 28 and 29. The Warwickshire captain, Mr. H. W. Bainbridge, winning the toss, put Yorkshire in, and on a wicket recovering from rain, did wisely, getting them out for a fairly reasonable score of 163. When Warwickshire went in, too, he showed splendid form with Walter Quaife, the pair scoring 114 for the first wicket. In Yorkshire’s second innings the Warwickshire bowlers fared badly at the hands of Moorliouse (102 not out), Peel (78), and Hirst (55 not out), with, in the result, ari aggregate of 378 for eight wickets, when Lord Hawke declared. Warwickshire, left with 289 to get to win in two hours and three- quarters, had made 130 of them for the loss of four wickets when the game was over. Walter Quaife made 125 for Warwickshire for once out. Yorkshire, 163 and 378 (8 wickets, innings closed); total, 541. Warwickshire, 253 and 130 (4 wickets); total, 383. BATTING AVERAGES.
